FIRST REVIEW for LUCIFER'S ORPHAN

has written the very first review for LUCIFER'S ORPHAN but ...

Amazon has bewitched her account in some strange arcane way so I will post it here, and she will link to it on her blog.

It is an honest one so poor Blake Adamson did not emerge unscathed, but then, he is used to that.

SO HERE GOES:

Review LUCIFER'S ORPHAN:
4 out of 5 stars, minor spoilers ahead.

First the cons
(just to get them out of the way)

There were a few grammatical errors and I thought the writing was a bit repetitive in places (Blake mentions the crossword puzzle of scars on his back quite a few times).

It brought me out of the story a bit. I also found Blake to be inordinately adult minded for a not quite fourteen year old boy. A terrible thing? No, just a hitch among otherwise well-crafted characters.

Now the good:

It’s a fun book, full of wry humor and intense scenes with a dash of mystery.

I absolutely loved Fallen, who’s intelligent and explosive.

I love female characters who have substance to their characterization. She really seems like a person, albeit a difficult one to get along with.

I also liked the interaction between her and Blake. I thought their friendship formed rather quickly, yet it made sense for the story and the characters. It worked.

In a nutshell, it’s most definitely worth purchasing. The drawbacks are minor and easy to ignore when you get into the story. I really loved reading it and can’t wait for the sequel.

Which I am about to do. That is the great thing about eBooks: you can polish and edit when flaws are pointed out to you, making your novel a better book. :-) I am off to purchase CASSASTORM RIGHT NOW!

  8. Ellie:
Thanks. I hope to polish it so that it gets 5 stars! :-)

No, actually there are some experts that say 4 stars reviews are more believed than 5 stars. But I want a few 5 stars, too! All too human me. :-)

    Trisha:
Thanks. You do know that I named Trish in THE RIVAL and END OF DAYS for you, don't you? You had just written a very nice comment when I was in the process of naming that character, and I said, "Why not 'Trish'?" :-)

  9. Congrats Roland! A review that helps you improve your book is valuable and 4 stars is still excellent. I hope someday you have time to read my book and give it an honest review as well. Good luck with sales, you can count mine among them.

  10. I couldn't read this. I haven't read it all yet! I love the song by Era, though!

There aren't really any spoilers per se. The crossword puzzle of scars mentioned is in the first chapter. Wasn't that video by Era great? The model could be an adult Fallen. :-)
