Yes, there was an episode of THE GOLDEN GIRLS which had an undercover policeman moaning how he couldn't afford to dress like Crockett on a cop's salary!! :-)
I watched Moonlight when it was on and bought the DVD after it was cancelled. And still I didn't know that they shot an entirely different pilot with a different lead actress. She seems really good, though I liked the actress that played Beth, too. The pilot for the unaired show seems edgier than the pilot for the aired one.
As you say, the timing was bad for this show. AND CBS did a crap job of PRing it. If I'm not mistaken it changed time slots in the only season it was on, which is pretty much sure-fire for killing a newbie show (or even an established one).
Teenage vampires just don't do it for me, I'd rather watch robots. Magnum PI was great because of Tom Selleck. That one I watched when I had time. Don Johnson in Miami Vice, never watched it. He did start the 'unshaven' trend for men, though.
I don't think I've heard of Moonlight, but I watched Magnum PI. Miami Vice was stylish and silly.

ReplyDeleteYet more programs I haven't watched. Goodness you are exposing my ignorance. I have heard of them of course, but never seen them.
ReplyDeleteI loved Magnum P.I. and Miami Vice! Both shows had great looking stars in beautiful locations.

I LOVED Miami Vice and Magnum, back in the day. Vice's main actors were so handsome.

It's hard to be more than cool than someone who has a pet alligator living on his house boat.
ReplyDeleteIt is all in the timing. Sadly you can't always predict it.
ReplyDeleteBlogger ate my earlier replies to you guys! Sorry.
ReplyDeleteElephant's Child:
There is just so much free time given to any of us. I am sure you watch programs of which I know nothing! :-)
Empty Nest Insider:
Is it just me, or do the male stars of today's TV shows look pretty rather than handsome? :-)
Teresa:
I daydreamed of going to Hawaii watching Magnum!
Robin:
A Moonlight fan! Yea!! Yes, the unshown pilot seemed edgier -- maybe that tone would have saved the show?
Walter:
Yes, Elvis the alligator!
Alex:
We need a time machine to get the perfect timing, right?
Gosh I'm old, I remember watching Magnum and Miami Vice and I was in my 20s when they were popular.
