BEEN SICK

To say I have been sick recently
is a HUGE understatement.

I have been beat up and felt better.  Even my hair hurts.

Don't get me started on the racking cough.

I literally had to slide out of bed and crawl to my clothes

to get ready to see the doctor I was so weak yesterday.

He scolded me for waiting so long,
saying he had seen CPR dummies with more color.

(Red Cross Workers prepare for flu patients in St. Louis. 1918)

Now, unlike the deadly Spanish Flu Outbreak in 1918 which killed up to 50 million people,

this Flu Season is only "Moderately Severe!"

This Flu Season is dominated by the H3N2 strain, the most deadly of the four flu strains.

Lucky us, right?

In Southern California and Central Texas,

some hospitals have become so overwhelmed that they have had to turn patients away.

Even in mild flu seasons, the flu kills 12, 000 Americans.

In bad years like this one, it can kill up to 56,000.

This year, this flu has killed a 10 year old boy in Connecticut,

a 21 year old body builder,

and a four year old boy in Dayton, Ohio.

Different people have differently composed immune systems,

and sometimes those immune systems are part of the reason so many "healthy" people die from the flu.

Don't be like me.

Seek a doctor's help without delay if you feel you may have the flu.

    1. I agree with you! You, Midnight, and I -- all three wish me feeling better soon. Either that or Midnight wants me to show him where the can opener is! :-)

    1. Yes, surprisingly, Midnight cuddled peacefully beside me without nagging to play as lay mending! :-)

    1. Will do. My supervisor wants me to return tomorrow even though the doctor insisted I stay out until Saturday, telling me relapses are often worse than the first time around. Besides, Saturday will be bad enough since it will be rainy and cold all Day. Brrr! :-)

  4. That's awful. Sorry you've been suffering. (I know what it's like when you feel too sick to go to see the doctor!) I certainly hope you'll recover quickly.

    1. Thanks, David. I needed Scotty's transporter to get me to the doctor -- but then I really needed Bones advanced medication!!

  5. Hope you feel better soon, Roland. I got a cough that quickly became bronchitis -something I've not had for many years. I'm sure I got it because my immune system was not strong and a person coughed several times right behind me as I was in a mail lineup. Probably didn't cover their mouth. . . I had the cough for two weeks. Finally made chicken soup from scratch and it's helping.

    1. I just ran out of chicken soup and miss it! I believe I know the uncaring woman who hacked into my face without an effort of blocking it. :-(

  6. Get well soon and don't go back to work too soon, your health is more important than work.

    1. Thanks, Sally. I'm pretty much locked into going to work this weekend, mostly alone. But if I still feel as bad as I do now or worse Monday, I will go to the doctor to see what he thinks. Thanks for caring, Sally

    1. Becky, thanks so much for the ecard. It meant so much. Working this weekend nearly did me in. I am curled up in my bed today and tomorrow with Midnight looking concerned. :-)

  9. Not good news, Roland. Sorry, but thanks for the humorous spin.

In our area we've had a few deaths and the hospital has set up triage tents outside the ER. It seem we have more than a moderate flu season here.

    1. Wash your hands constantly. Wear a cloth face mask: people do not cover their mouths when cough these days. Stay well!
