NEXT TOP TITLE BLOGFEST/VENICE IS FOR VAMPIRES

Today is the day for Slushpile Slut 's {It's the old world gentleman in me, but everytime I write those words, I expect an invisible hand to slap me.} NEXT TOP TITLE BLOGFEST
http://slushpileslut.blogspot.com/2010/05/americas-next-top-title-blogfestfinally.html

And here they are :

1) AN ARIA FOR HITLER
2) VENICE IS FOR VAMPIRES
3) CITY OF LIGHTS, SHADOWS OF DEATH
4) CANALS OF WATER, STREAMS OF BLOOD
5) DEATH NEVER FORGETS

Hope you like them. Tell me what you think, all right?

If you'd like to see a scene from my WIP that I dreamed, go to this post from April :

I'm listening to the reflective "Shape of My Heart" by Sting {Gordon Matthew Sumner.} He is a longtime activist for the hurting, composing and singing "Driven To Tears" while still with The Police -- it was an angry indictment of apathy in the face of world hunger. He kept on with his crusade for those in need ever since. On January 22, 2010, he once again sang "Driven To Tears" during the global telethon HOPE FOR HAITI. 1. I think my favorite is #5, DEATH NEVER FORGETS: it sounds both ominous and interesting.

And thank you for the advice re: query. I'm definitely keeping them in mind. :)

  2. LOVE LOVE LOVE the first one! That's got real oomph, Roland. The others a beautiful and poetic but don't hit me as strongly as the first. :o)

  3. I think City of Lights, Shadows of Death is my favorite. I might like An Aria for Hitler, but (I hate to admit) I don't know what aria means, so I'd probably just keep going if I saw it on a bookshelf. Great selections here!

  4. I love Venice is for Vampires - because it's completely unexpected and very intriguing for me - vampires in venice? Wow!!!!!

    Take care

  5. VENICE IS FOR VAMPIRES
    &
CITY OF LIGHTS, SHADOWS OF DEATH

I love both and can't chose between them. They both hold what could be a dark read full of danger and bumps in the night. :)

  6. I like Death Never Forgets. It's simple and to the point, plus open to interpretation.

I have had internet issues today so by the time I'd found out about the title blogfest (today, since I don't follow the blogger), I could not enter since she was gone for the day. I'm sorry I disappointed you.

I'm also sorry to hear about what is happening in your life. You can email me at any time you need a sounding board for your heart. I'm here for you, even if I sometimes don't know what to say after reading your amazing writing.

  7. Hey, Roland! I really like VENICE IS FOR VAMPIRES. Just gives me a great atmospheric feel and I know right off the bat where it fits. Nice! On another partially unrelated note, (cuz I'm speaking of blogfests) I'm canceling my June 28 Cognitive Dissonance Blogfest. I've just GOT to get this MS to THE END - and I need less distraction to do so. *crosses fingers that it'll work* :D

  8. Love the titles! Haha! The Aria for Hitler reminded me of the song Springtime For Hitler and Germany from The Producers. Ironic and almost absurd. Instantly intriguing.\I love Sting. He's the MAN.

  9. I like Death Never Forgets. It sounds mysterious and intriguing. I'd certainly pick up the book with a title like that!

I wonder, it sounds like it has to do with lots of death, blood, battles, violence... :)

  10. Def not Hitler. You really want to use Hitler as your marketing strategy?
    Venice is okay
Nothing's really grabbing me. They all see a bit long and trying too hard.
Maybe the Death one because it's shortest.

  11. I busted up laughing when I read "An Aria for Hitler". I would only use that if you're trying to be funny. Even with that, you are running a big risk with that.

The other one that could my eye was #3, but can it be shorted to "City of Lights and Death"?

  12. I prefer "Death Never Forgets"

  13. Yes, I forgot about SPRINGTIME FOR HITLER, guys. It's been the kind of month orbituaries are written about.

CITY OF LIGHTS AND DEATH does have a spark. Something I don't seem to have a lot of right now. Even dirt needs a rest.

  14. I thought of the Producers, too, with the first one. I like the City title, but stumble on the opposing plurals. Maybe City of Light, Shadow of Death, instead? Or Light and Death, hehe.

I like Venice is for Vampires and Death Never Forgets, too, and these are a bit stronger.

P.S. What up, dude? You okay??

  15. Just punchy from too many blood runs, too little sleep, and promises to keep. Give me a good night's sleep, and I'll be my old self again. Roland

  16. If it's a light-hearted book, Venice is for Vampires. If it's more of a suspense/thriller then Death Never Forgets.

  17. I really like "Venice Is for Vampires." #1: because I'm a sucker for alliteration and #2: vamps are hot right now. Of course, at this point, if you're querying, they're not. Maybe I should pick a different favorite...hmm...nope, the alliteration still makes it the best. :)

  18. I know the vampire thing is overdone, but I love Venice is for Vampires. Excellent!

  19. These are great, Roland. An Aria for Hitler didn't put me in mind of Springtime for Hitler at all, and I really liked it. However, Death Never Forgets is my favorite. It's intriguing without telling too much. IMO, Venice is for Vampires sounds a little glib for your rich atmospheric style, and City of Lights says Paris to me.

  20. I love numbers 2, 3, and 5. They are fantastic. Sorry it took me so long to get here! Great titles!

  21. I like Venice is for Vampires the best. Conjures up the elegant mysterious air of the city with the vampire lore.

  22. I like Venice is for Vampires, too. The first one is a bit too easy to misconstrue, I think, Hitler being such a sensitive topic. 3 and 4 are ok, but they somehow lack rhythm... Also, the one about streams and canals reminds me of River of Blood, which is an excellent French paranormal thriller/horror movie (definately check that one out if you haven't seen it yet...although not sure it's out in english...).

Thank you for your comments on my entries!

  23. Hey Roland!! Won't slap you I swear! I was all set to pick Venice is for Vampires and then I saw Death Never Forgets so NOW I'm torn! I'm thinking with all the crapload of Vampire novels you should go with Death Never Forgets, that title says a lot about immortality and the curse thereof. Hope the blogfest helps and Thx for participating!!

    VENICE IS FOR VAMPIRES!

    Hands down.
