VICTOR STANDISH SPEAKS ... SORT OF

Happy Midnight.

Elena Solodow of

YOU'RE WRITE. EXCEPT WHEN YOU'RE RONG :
http://elenasolodow.blogspot.com/

became Orson Welles for a moment.

She took my prelude to THE LEGEND OF VICTOR STANDISH :

THE HELL-BOUND BUS and ...

turned in a virtuoso performance worthy of CITIZEN KANE or

Welles' radio broadcast of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS
with eerie angles and visual effects even.

I, who, like Victor, am seldom at a loss for words --

well, I'm speechless. Elena did a splendid reading.

Consider submitting your short fiction to be read by the redoubtable Miss Solodow. If you are lucky enough to be selected, you will be astounded as I was.
Do not miss her performance of my prelude : THE HELL-BOUND BUS

Her video is no longer available, but Victor found another to voice him

  2. Michael : After driving 300 miles tonight, I'm at least going crazy. Does that count? I'm glad you got into Miss Snark's agent auction's first round. Best of luck to you.

  3. Of course it counts. I'm surprised you have that much energy... You are having some long week. I hope you'll have some time for yourself soon.

  4. OMG; Elena is such an excellent reader. Wow; she really did this piece credit Roland.

I'm a staunch advocate for books-on-tape (having glaucoma myself and knowing several avid readers who have succumed to slow blindness) but my problem with the medium is finding a reader who doesn't try to "act out" the reading. Written words should convey the emotion the writer intends, not the orator.

So when I say Elena does the piece justice, I mean she reads it as written, and doesn't all her own vision of what the "reader" should get out out of the excerpt.

And excellent pairing here, Roland and Elena.

  5. Okay, so this was so worth coming back from blogcation to see/hear. She did such a great job with your piece.

I don't do books on tape, but this was freaking great!!!

This is the prologue, yes? I love it, and I hate prologues. LOL

  6. Donna : Thanks so much. I thought Elena did an excellent job, too.

I did not know about your glaucoma. I am dreadfully unaware of the medical advances, if any, with that disease. Are you receiving treatment? Can its progress be slowed or stopped? I'll be talking to The Father on your behalf tonight and every night now. Have a great weekend. Roland

  7. Jodi : Yes, I'm usually not a fan of prologues, but this one seemed to click for me.

And yes, Elena did a virtuoso performance, worthy of a standing ovation. She's a champ.

Books on cd have to have the right reader for me to enjoy. On long blood runs, they make the time easier to bear.

    Welcome back. I missed you.

I think Victor Standish is an amazing creation anyway but used like this - really really makes him and his stories so scarily effective!!!

    Take care

  10. Roland! I am so not normally a fan of listening to something rather than reading it, NORMALLY. But wow! I was caprivated by this.

  11. Nice vid! Super writing in there--one line really jumped out at me as superb:
"The hours passed like kidney stones."
    That says it all. Brilliant!
Nice to meet you Roland, and thanks for stopping by my blog and viewing my dragons during my award interlude. :o)

  12. Carol : Wasn't Elena great? Haven't you had hours like poor Victor's?

Thanks for visiting my blog. Your dragons were fantastic. They reminded me of the ones I sold at my book store. Have a great weekend, Roland

  13. She did a great job! Wow, how cool for you!

I'm talking to My Daddy, too, everyday, for Donna. I didn't know, either!

  14. Words Crafter : Didn't Elena craft a wonderful reading performance? And yes, Donna is a trooper for suffering in silence, being compassionate in her comments to everyone. Each person bears more than they appear to be.

    Have a great Sunday, Roland
