THE SYMBOL FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

WHAT IS IT?

THE CELL PHONE?

THE SELFIE?

CAITLYN JENNER's VANITY FAIR COVER?

 THE CONFEDERATE FLAG?

 {Isn't it stretching political correctness
to silly proportions for WB no longer licensing
toys of the General Lee with the flag on top
and
TV Land cancelling re-runs of
Dukes Of Hazard?}

No.
None of these.

Yes, that's right.

THE LEAF BLOWER is the symbol
for the 21st Century.

It reflects the current mind set of LET ME MAKE MY PROBLEM SOMEBODY ELSE'S.

Blowing your leaves into your neighbor's yard has the double pleasure

of making a lot of racket and dumping your problem into somebody else's lap.

Blowing your leaves into the street just makes a mess for the sanitation people.  But who cares?

It's not your worry anymore, right?

It "replaces" the rake, doing the job poorly

and with an atrocious amount of noise for added dysfunctional fun.

If folks think that leaf blowers are a good idea, I weep for our modern society.

Rakes are quiet, provide a good physical work-out, and use no fossil fuel.

Leaf Blowers in the end are accomplishing nothing.

You still need to eventually pick up the leaves and debris, which will require what?

A rake!

Unless that is, you are simply blowing your leaves onto the street, onto your neighbor’s lawn

in which case they will eventually end up right back where they started

and you will need to blow them away again!

But the "Leaf Blower" mind-set has spread.

One of the biggest examples of this, is debt.

The United States has anywhere from $17 to $30 TRILLION in debt

(depending on who you ask and how honest they are).

Our government spends more every year than it collects in tax revenue,

and puts the difference on a big credit card that they get to determine the credit limit on.

Doing this is just like firing up a big leaf blower

and blowing it to where our kids and grandkids will be living when they grow up and start working

(if there are any jobs left).

We need to stop this.

What do you think is the symbol for the 21st Century?

  1. I heartily dislike leaf blowers due to the noise and for the reasons you mentioned. I also don't like the idea that it's ok to blow the messy leaves into the street instead of picking them up. But then, it is the era of entitlement. . . I think the uproar about the Confederate flag is much ado about nothing.

    1. Like you, I was taught to clean up my own messes and not make them somebody else's. The culture has changed around us. :-( Happy 4th from the states! :-)

  2. Leaf blowers? Lazy and inefficient. Which sums up excess debt too. Governments, including ours, which hit those at the lower end of the scale hard, leaving the well off (where there is revenue available) pretty much alone are lazy, dishonest and inefficient..
    Sigh.

    1. Sadly, it is Man's inclination to foster as many problems off his shoulders onto others as he can. I sigh along with you. :-(

  3. Hi Roland - if only we could ignore the leaf-blowers ... if that's what they want to do ... so be it - let's remember the good things and not brood or worry about the negatives: enhance our own lives and we can help others ...

    Great post - cheers Hilary

    1. The noise of the leaf blowers makes it hard to ignore them! :-) Yes, there is so much beauty to the world and life is so short -- so it behooves us to appreciate what blessings we have, right? :-)

  4. But think of all the jobs that leaf blowers create. You have the engineers that design the blowers, the plant workers that assemble them, the truck drivers that take them to retailers, the retail cashiers that sell you the blower, and the government that taxes every step of the existence of the blower. Without the blower we would live in a society of chaos and fear without end...
Then again I couldn't borrow my neighbors, and blow what he blew into my yard back at him...the perpetual cycle. Have a great 4th of July and stay safe! ;-)

    1. Yes -- though the renewal of the rake industry would add jobs! :-) May your 4th be great. I am doing solo duty at the rare blood center this weekend, so a restful holiday is not in the cards for me!!

    1. It does seem as if America's peoples are swallowing camels and choking on gnats, doesn't it? :-)

  6. Ha! Leaf blowers, isn't that the truth? :-)
Personally, I love yard work. It's good for the soul. I'm even a bit possessive: "Hey! Who moved my rake?"
