WHAT WOULD YOU PICK FOR THE BEST MOVIES OF 2015?

It’s easy to bemoan a film business dominated by “Jurassic World”- and “Star Wars”- size spectacles.

But even in a year when those bigfoots roamed the ’plexes,

the cinematic ecosystem looked encouragingly healthy and diverse, with big-budget popcorn movies, mainstream studio dramas,

edgy indies, documentaries and foreign-language films all showing signs of originality and high craft.

What would be your choices?

SPOTLIGHT?

INSIDE OUT?

 CAROL?

THE MARTIAN?

SON OF SAUL?

EX MACHINA?

 THE FORCE AWAKENS

Which are your picks?

  1. Hi Roland - Carol is on my list ... and I saw Bridge of Spies, which I thought was very good - took me back to my touching of the East European days: it was much worse ... but gives an idea. Spotlight I've thought about and I missed the Martian ... I posted about 2 films I've seen recently as part of our film society. I must watch some of the DVDs I've got here ... like reading - I don't seem to do those activities. Cheers Hilary

    1. Bridge of Spies was an excellent film, wasn't it? And the hero went on to do even more for those held hostage in the future. Nice to know that some heroes are real life and not fiction!!

  2. Mad Max Fury Road still tops my list. Followed by Avengers II and Ant-Man. Then Star Wars. And The Martian.

    1. I'd knew you'd say MAD MAX: FURY ROAD but I wanted to put movies that not everyone might have thought about. :-)

  3. Like Hilary, I saw Bridge of Spies and loved it -- such a pleasure to see a grown up movie about grown ups trying to do the right thing. But of course I'll also go see Star Wars.

    1. It's hard to find a movie about adults doing adult things that ends well! Bridge of Spies was such a movie. I would have seen Star Wars today but slept 16 hours straight healing from yesterday 16 hour work day! Ouch!!!

    2. I was going to get some feed back but not sure if it was proper.

    3. It had nothing to do with
      the question you asked
      of which movie was good
      and who kicked who’s a**

      it was something I wrote
      about the earth and stars
I should not have put it
      Where your comments are

      Movies are not my things
Tho I like the big ones fine
      Very few of them boys
      Will see my thin dime

      You ask a good question
      so here is my reply

  5. I don't get out to the movies often since they are one of many migraine triggers for me. (I wear sunglasses to help avoid them which probably looks odd.) Anyway, I would definitely not pick Inside Out. It had a great message, but was a bit depressing and boring compared to other cartoons. The Martian is the best I've seen in theaters this year, but then again, I've seen probably less than 5.

    1. So sorry about those migraines. :-(

I've heard INSIDE OUT was depressing in spots -- I try to avoid movies like that since I can get depressed for free! Happy Holidays. Roland
