- Helen Keller
“I am sore wounded but not slain
I will lay me down and bleed awhile
And then rise up to fight again”
- John Dryden
To be a writer is to bleed --
bleed out the words, bleed at each critical barb thrown at your work,
bleed from isolation, and bleed at the indifference with which your hard-wrought prose is met.
Come with me to C. Lee McKenzie's blog,

You have never read a guest post quite like this one.
When I lay in a borrowed bed in a borrowed room after my house fire, recovering from my burns, I listened to this to go to sleep:
Already visited Lee this morning.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alex. :-)
DeleteI love Loreena McKennitt. I often listen to her when I'm editing.
ReplyDeleteHer music is beautiful, isn't it? :-)
DeleteSad but true, Roland. Writing is one of the toughest industries out there...it can result in so much pain.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that happened to you, but I'm grateful you survived. You have much to offer the world with your insights, heart, and humour.
If it were easy, then we would know it was the wrong path to take! I have recovered from my burns, and losing everything physical taught me what truly is important is what we carry within us like love, friendship, and memories. :-)
DeleteI would of never of know the work of Loreena McKennitt, without your recommendation. I would not of ever heard of one of my favorite (modern era) Novels, ie "Tales of the Otori"; if it had not been for your kindness and gift in 04, when I spent a year recovering on my back, from metal discectomies. For these things I can never say Thank You enough Mon Ami. Compassion is your Compass, and always has been.
ReplyDeleteI am proud to call you friend, Robert. I was more than happy to share some of my discoveries with you! May the days ahead be some of your best yet!
