From VARIETY to the BOSTON GLOBE to CNN,
media outlets scrambled over one another yesterday,
blaring the results of Carrie Fisher's autopsy report months after the actress' death ...
even though the family wanted some semblance of respect and courtesy paid to Carrie.
Did the world need to know this?
The poor woman is dead. Let her rest in peace.
There is a game show host in the White House,
the senate is trying to kick 24 million people off healthcare
and this is what makes the news?
Then, there is Megyn Kelly giving air time to Alex Jones, a “conspiracy-spewing” radio host,
whose claim that no children were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary
is especially troubling since she hosts the Promise Champions Gala,
an annual event for the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation,
a nonprofit gun violence prevention group founded
by family members of some of the Sandy Hook shooting victims.
Giving air time to such a borderline personality only gives him legitimacy.
What was Megyn Kelly thinking?
Of ratings, of course.
What recent media headlines have troubled you?
Headlines suggesting that the latest London atrocity was an 'incident' rather than terrorism because the victims were Muslim and the attacker was not.
ReplyDeleteAnd the fact that there is significantly less coverage of the event in the first place.
DeletePrejudice now rules the headlines sadly. :-(
DeleteI can happily report that I don't follow Mr. Jones' show. My life is richer for it. Thanks for pointing out something we really need to think about: News ratings. Remember back when CNN was one of the most respected networks on TV?
ReplyDeleteNow, CNN has become the parody of it that the Sean Connery movie, WRONG IS RIGHT, made it. :-(
DeleteAlmost anything the media tells us about Trump bothers me, not because they're reporting about it, but because he's actually doing these things in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI try to stay away from the news just for that reason: there is nothing I can do about it, and it only irritates me. :-)
DeleteTruthfully? I've stopped listening to the news. When I want to know what's going on, I seek out a source of information that doesn't make me want to throw stones. People tell as many lies as truths and focus on all the negative things in life. Dang propaganda. No thank you.
