THREE SPIRIT KNIGHT_The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

I am to answer the next 10 questions ... so here goes:

What is the working title of your book?

THREE SPIRIT KNIGHT

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I thought it might be fun if a protagonist found out all his saving the day had ended the world.  How could someone undo that?  If your mother is the Angel of Death, you have a shot at it.

What genre does your book fall under?

The easy answer would be YA Urban Fantasy.  But it involves Norns, Off-Reality Betting, the Sidhe, the realm of Never-Was, the loathsome She Who Breeds, and the Twilight of the Gods ... in New Orleans of all places.  So Epic Fantasy fits as well.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

A teenage Robert Downey, Jr. for Victor Standish.

Elle Fanning for Alice Wentworth.

Cate Blanchett for the Angel of Death.

And Gerard Butler for Samuel McCord.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Wanting a respite from the demands of her existence, the Angel of Death sacrifices her son, and he struggles to save those he loves without losing her heart.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Self-published unless Harper Collins Voyager decides to pick up the adventures of Victor Standish.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Still writing it.  (I write the first draft and polish it as I go along.)

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

SUPER 8 meets TRUE BLOOD meets CLOUD ATLAS.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

My harrowing days on the streets of New Orleans during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

There are naked pictures of Olivia Wilde in it.

(Just checking to see if you were still with me.)

The question:

If you knew going back in time and undoing yourself would save those you love though they would not remember you, would you do it?

I do not tag since so many dislike it, so if any of you would like to answer these questions, please consider yourselves invited to do so.

Presently, the lovely Quincy Coleman is perfoming at Meilori's.  Come sit with me at McCord's table and listen to her evocative song, CALLING YOUR NAME.

{Is that Victor Standish behind those sunglasses?}

  1. Re - casting for Victor Standish. Can I vote for a young Johnny Depp? (As he appeared in What's Eating Gilbert Grape, but with darker hair.)

Angel of Death casting sounds good. I'm a fan of Cate Blanchette's acting.

No time for tags. Drive carefully.

  2. City:
You are a person of mystery from your profile. I'm glad you found something you liked in my post.

    D.G.:
Johnny Depp would be good, too. Victor being Victor thinks a young Brad Pitt would be perfect! :-)

I would be honored if the talented Cate Blanchett would play the Angel of Death in the movie. Boy, am I dreaming, or what?

This weekend will be a challenge. I drove 500 miles today, and I am a bit weary!

  3. Hi Roland, I am surprised from what I've previously read about Victor that you say he is of teenage years. I had an impression of a mid-20's chap. It's amazing how our imagination can run away with us.

I like the image of him being similar to the chap in dark glasses from your audio clip (very handsome with some mystery and magnetism attached).

I hope you are able to get some rest this weekend.

  4. Damn! No pictures of her naked then?
I can see all of those actors fitting your characters, especially Fanning as Alice. She looks good as a ghoul.

  6. Good luck finishing up this new ms, it sounds great! Man, how I wish I could write as much as you. (: Hope Harper Collins Voyager picks up the adventures of Victor Standish, it's a great series, truly.

  7. Sally:
Victor's years on mean streets makes him look and think older than his years.

Mystery and magnetism - that's Victor all right. He sneaked on stage for that vid to entertain Alice!

No rest this weekend or this whole week actually. Maybe next weekend! Whew!

    Alex:
When I saw Ellie in SUPER 8 made up as a zombie, I went, "That's Alice!" Especially now that she is a few years older than then.

Sorry about the pictures but Olivia's lawyers kept repeating silly words like CEASE and DESIST! :-)

    Elise:
Thanks for the great words about Victor's series of adventures. Say a prayer about Harper Collins Voyager picking him up. Ah, Alice just glared at me.

Alice, I didn't mean that way!

  8. Awesome casting, Roland. And I've got a couple manuscripts with Harper Voyager as well -- fingers crossed for us both.

  9. So no naked pics? Oh well. Sounds awesome. Thanks for playing.

BTW, are tortillas an east to find item at grocery stores in New Orleans?
