THE WORLD SEEMS SOMEHOW OFF KILTER DOESN'T IT?

I don't mean Miley Cyrus flashing a nipple on the MTV awards

or doing another classless routine for the finale

or having a childish, inappropriate playground tiff with Nicki Minjaj.

I'm not talking about Kanye West ending a 12 minute rant

by announcing he would run for President in 2020 ...

and would give free sneakers to each person if he were elected.

Wayne Dyer died the night of the awards and no one noticed due to the nipple and ego flashing.

Joining him on the" next great adventure" as Tony Robbins said of Mr. Dyer's dying was Wes Craven.

Mr. Craven,  the famed maestro of horror known for the Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream franchises,

died Sunday after a battle with brain cancer. He was 76.

Wes Craven also guided Meryl Steep to an Oscar nom for 'Music of the Heart.'

Trump is gaining ground in his run for President, and the rest of the GOP seems to trying to adopt some of his policies.

I am worried about us.

A state trooper stopped to help a driver whose car had run off the interstate.

He was shot in the face with a shotgun for his efforts.

I am a rare blood courier, and I have noticed a spike in the need for blood recently due to violent crimes.

Psychologists who study pathology have turned a mostly blind eye to influences from the wider world

In general, how much, and in what ways, do events in the wider world affect our individual personalities?

Societal factors clearly influence our observable behavior

—what we will and won’t do in public on a day-to-day basis—

but can societal, cultural, political, and even technological factors soak into our very psyches,

infiltrate our inner cores and make lasting changes to who we are

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

  1. I hope not.

I think Social Media and the lack of restraint some people have with virulent opinions are having a bad influence. Someone who is unstable can be kicked over the edge by the idleness of some thoughts put into print that most people would scoff at.

    1. That certainly was the case with Nicki Minjaj at least.

Values are no longer thought to be absolute. Many compare their actions with those in the media and feel justified in being shabby and violent. Sad, isn't it?

  2. It's scary to hear Trump speak, especially when he seems to be gaining a following. Other politicians have said they would build a wall between the US and its northern neighbour. Really? It seems there is less smart thinking these days, and much ego stroking.

    1. When a nation walls itself in, I think of the Berlin Wall and sigh. :-(

  3. I really believe we're seeing a manifestation of what battles are happening in the spiritual world materializing in the tangible one. Its quite scary actually.

    1. I believe you are right. But it is uncool and unsophisticated to voice this view. Sad really. But greater is He who is within us than he who is without, right? :-)

  4. The internet gave crazy a platform, and sadly, crazy is vocal, active, and yes changing the world!

    1. You are so right. Crazy used to be hemmed in by society -- now it is being unleashed upon us by the internet and attention-starved individuals. :-(

    1. Crazy seems to be the new Norm, doesn't it? And unsettled is the least of what that makes us, right?

  6. I believe we can be more intensely influenced by our fellow humans than we realize -- some scientists are theorizing about fields of energy and even inherited memories or collective thoughts. The mob rule really does seem to be getting out of control.

    1. Jung would agree with you on the collective unconscious all right. We find ourselves living in a culture that praises the perverse and lampoons decency. Strange, right?

  7. If Trump becomes president, it just might be a sign of the apocalypse...

    1. At least the apocalypse of this country ... of course then the next president would be Kanye West!! Just think: Kim as our First Lady!!

  8. Hi Roland - I think it's horrific how social media allows bullying - but media bullies too.

    ISIS bullies ...

The Hungarian authorities are bullying the people who have fled war or doomed places on this planet ... Syria, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Sudan, Libya et al ...

We need some new very strong leaders with common sense ideas, innovative ones too ... we simply can't accept our leaders being so insensitive ...

We are in interesting times - and that's a polite way of putting it ... and in thrall to the media ...

    Take care ... Hilary

    1. ISIS is worse than any bully -- they are sociopathic terrorists hiding under the flag of religion without conscience or mercy.

The refugee problem is getting horrible, isn't it?

    2. Yes - re the refugee problem; the whole thing is troublesome to put it mildly ... somehow politically we have to put some things aside - and getting people to think in the same way for the greater good of mankind - seems to be something we don't do very well ...

ISIS can be added to the list of maximum tyrannical dictators ...

      I won't go on - it's too distressing to think about ... H

  9. I'm feeling worried, too. Trump is gaining a lot of ground and it's a terrifying thought that he might get any sort of power like that :(

I saw about Wes Craven the night it happened. So sad, but at least he doesn't have to fight the cancer anymore. Freddy will forever be haunting dreams.

The VMA's? I write for a music blog and I was trying to find some NEWS to write about and that was the only thing google was giving me for pages and pages. Not interested, couldn't even fake interest. >:(

    1. Blogger ate my reply. Rats.

I do not trust any political candidate or politician. Too many past lies.

VMA's and most modern music leaves me cold. Neil Gaiman introduced to Thea Gilmore who loves words, taking them out of her heart and making them dance for you.

  10. I hadn't heard about Wayne Dyer or Wes Craven dying. :-(

There are indeed changes in our culture, moving to a more secular and progressive agenda. The careless attitude toward the national debt tends to alarm me more than these cultural changes do, but I see your point. It is scary when celebrities influence politics and culture more than thoughtful orators do.

I really don't believe Trump will be the Republican candidate. I think he's making the other, more credible candidates up their game, which isn't a bad thing. I heard he and Dr. Ben Carson were tied in the recent Iowa poll which made me cheer!
