THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP TO YOUR BOOK'S SUCCESS ... and your blog's, too!

The blogverse is a big and busy world with over 100 million blogs and growing.

How do you attract visitors to your blog?

For the past two days I have been talking about how to attract traffic to your new book and your blog:

Step 1: Discover Your Book's Unique Attraction:

For a successful launch, you don’t need unique ingredients.

You need a unique recipe of what entices readers.

This summer, the mythic hero is the focus of the movies and thus my release of my mythic hero audio books --

{Hear Samuel McCord's first adventure!}

Step 2: Build Anticipation The Right Way

Think Strip Tease: a little revelation with the promise of even better things to come.

Now, onto something politicians seem unable to do:

Step 3: Deliver On Your Promises

Do you know the common thread to all my friends?

THEY DO WHAT THEY SAY THEY WILL DO.

You will not meet many people who will do that in today's world.  When you are one of them,

YOU STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD.

Here’s how:

1. Add an unannounced bonus –

For example, when I released END OF DAYS, I put in 12 unannounced beautiful interior

illustrations.

The Kindle edition of THE BEARS WITH TWO SHADOWS has two unannounced interior illustrations.

2. Deliver beautiful packaging –

Your cover is essential.  People do judge a book (and a blog) by its cover. :-D

{Remember when I receive 12 reviews,
I will draw from the 12 names for an autographed photo of
Johnny Depp}

 3. DELIVER RESULTS –

You can’t get around this. Whether you promise thrills or laughs, they have to be there.

4. DELIVER SURPRISES -

Put everything in your new book.

Hold nothing back for the sequel. Think what would floor you if you were reading this book and put that and more into your book.

FURTHER THOUGHS ABOUT DELIEVERING:

1. Write Well and Write Often

Frequently updating your blog with useful content is the first step to building your blog's audience.

The content you write is what will keep readers coming back for more.

Make sure you have something meaningful to say to them and say it often to maintain their interest and keep them loyal.

Furthermore, post frequently

to increase the number of chances you have for your blog's content to be noticed by search engines such as Google or Technorati.

2. Harness the Power of Comments

Commenting is a simple and essential tool to increase your blog's traffic.

First, respond to comments left on your blog to show your readers that you value their opinions and draw them into a two-way conversation. This will increase reader loyalty.

Second, leave comments on other blogs to drive new traffic.

Make sure you leave your blog's URL in your comment, so you create a link back to your own blog.

Many people will read the comments left on a blog post.

If they read a particularly interesting comment, they are highly likely to click on the link to visit the commentor's website.

It's important to make sure you leave meaningful comments that are likely to invite people to click on your link to read more.

THE BEAR WITH TWO SHADOWS AUDIO BOOK is coming soon!

  1. great and useful advice, Roland! pretty much, it would be impossible to fail following these steps.

i can't wait to see the new star trek movie. although, after the terrible events recently at theaters, i'm sort of happy to wait for the dvd. we'll see...

about covers-you're absolutely right. and you have some fantastic ones :)

  2. Words Crafter:
I try to give the best advice I know to help my friends. If my audio books take off, then we'll know if it really works! :-)

Leonora Roy deserves all the credit for my covers!! She is a genius.

I tend to see my movies on the first showing on a weekday -- safer and cheaper! :-)

  3. Useful information! Thanks slso for the reminder that I owe you a couple of reviews soon. (I have them in progress right now)

  4. I do lack the url of my blog in my comments. My blog's name is my own, so it seems redundant.
I threw a lot in my sequel. Hopefully not too much.

  5. D.G.:
Thanks for even considering doing a review! I try to smooth the path for my friends as others have for me! :-)

    Alex:
As with all advice, you have to take what makes sense for you and adapt the rest!

The Harry Dresden and Mercy Thompson novels always ratchet up the tension, action, and surprises towards the last third. Since they are NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERS, I think they are onto something!!
    :-)

I have confidence your 3rd will be great and do gangbusters in sales!

A blood run is calling me, so I must be off! Victor says I'm Off all the time. LOL.

  6. Hey, Roland, good advice, and hope the audio tapes go over great.

Thought I'd share this with my buds over at WMD.

  7. ...as always, great advice, Roland. Luring those traveling bloggers to the old scratch pad can indeed be a challenge.

Looking forward to the upcoming summer movie frenzy as well. All three kids have their must see lists posted on the fridge ;)

World War Z tops my list. Currently reading the book, hoping the movie doesn't tear it to shreds.

    Enjoy your day,

    El

  8. Lorelei:
They are actually iTunes and Audible downloads for iPhones and Kindles, making them more accessible for those on the run!

Thanks so much for sharing this with your WMD friends!

    Elliot:
WORLD WAR Z is another film I want to see, too. Victor Standish says he'll pass -- it would remind him too much of everyday life!!

Thanks for the good wishes and for visiting and commenting. I'm off for another blood run. Whew!
