HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE?

Do you think Elle Fanning could play Alice Wentworth

when they make a movie of THE LEGEND OF VICTOR STANDISH?

Hey, I can dream, right?

Do you think of your characters with faces of movie stars? Tom Selleck in QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER is who I think of when I write Samuel McCord.

We write of love. But do we do it so it touches the heart?

Neil Gaiman wrote :

“Have you ever been in love?

Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable.

It opens your chest, and it opens up your heart, and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.”

Being in love and writing of being in love. It's something they don't teach you in school. And Neil, being the genius he is, also wrote of that :

“I've been making a list of the things they don't teach you at school.

They don't teach you how to love somebody.

They don't teach you how to be famous. They don't teach you how to be rich or how to be poor.

They don't teach you how to walk away from someone you don't love any longer. They don't teach you how to know what's going on in someone else's mind. They don't teach you what to say to someone who's dying.

They don't teach you anything worth knowing.”

Oh, and with the New Year coming, I will let Neil Gaiman give my benediction for it :

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness.

I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art --

write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can.

And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.”

  1. She'd make a great Alice! And yes, we can definitely dream. I love to imagine who would be cast in the movie adaptation of my novel. :)

  2. Heather :
Now, to convince her and J J Abrams to do the movie! December 6th is just around the corner when you and I will do your interview at Mesmer's, the only restaurant in the French Quarter to be owned and run by a cat!

  3. We love doing our own fanstasy cast and she'd make a great Alice. I'm done with the book and again THANK YOU for letting us take a peek at it.

Yes, wouldn't Elle make a great Alice? I hope reading THE LEGEND OF VICTOR STANDISH wasn't too much of a chore. Thanks for taking a peek at it -- at least you didn't throw any veggies at me. Victor was disappointed. He eats out of dumpsters you know so fresh greens would have been a great change! LOL. Roland

  5. That is certainly a lot of things they don't teach us at school! I like what Neil Gaiman says about being in love...

  8. Just watched that movie. It's worth it!

I do see Selleck when I McCord. Perfect cast, if a bit old, now. You're dating yourself, bro! (As am I...)

Where did you read those Gaiman quotes?

Scary but pretty - that's Alice all right. But Victor's such a scamp, he needs a strong opposite to counter his brashness. LOL.

    Eric :
Wasn't SUPER 8 great? I first saw QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER as a DVD in the bargin bin at Wal-Mart. So I'm only dating myself a bit. LOL. I got the Neil Gaiman quotes from GOODREADS. There are many more great quotes from Gaiman there! Check it out! Roland

  10. That is a wonderful benediction. Thank you so much for the warm wishes. And love does make us all so vulnerable...especially the early stages of it. I think it takes several months from the initial falling in love before we start acting like ourselves again. It's one of those emotions we have no control over. We're large and yet so tiny...yet I'm so happy for it.

    Have a great day. :)

Might as well be happy for it since we have no control over being human, right? We wear so many masks in trying to impress someone we care for not realizing that if we win them with that mask, we will always have to wear it, not being ourselves! Thanks for such an insightful comment, Roland
