ARE YOU EXCITED?

No, not about Miley.  Shiver.  The poor girl is like a train wreck that never stops.

No, I'm talking about truly important stuff here:

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is leading off an entire night of new ABC programming (always a risk, especially in these fragmented times),

taking on TV's top-rated drama (NCIS), satisfying the expectations of Marvel Comics fans and Joss Whedon's considerable cult following,

that's a lot for any spin-off to live up to, even with source material like The Avengers.

But hey, this is S.H.I.E.L.D.  They protect the ordinary from the extraordinary.

Those who have already seen the pilot know that in patented Whedon fashion, S.H.I.E.L.D. slyly subverts portentous comic book clichés with refreshing blasts of self-effacing wit amid all the stylized mayhem.

The show's greatest asset is also its most provocative mystery:

the resurrection of Agent Phil Coulson (the dry, wry Clark Gregg)

from his untimely fate in The Avengers, supervising deadly Ken's and Barbies as they jet around the world in a mammoth stealth aircraft.

Then, there is my personal favorite:

The thriller Person of Interest, which moves from Thursday to its new night and time period (10/9c) for a third season with everything,

including the mysterious missing Machine, (which spies on us all and spots individuals about to be murdered) in flux.

Shaw, the sociopathic ex-intelligence agent, (Sarah Shahi, now a series regular) is partnered with Reese, the former government operative seeking personal redemption (Jim Caviezel),

and their latest case involves figuring which of the many naval officers visiting New York City for Fleet Week is the Machine's target du jour.

Carter (Taraji P. Henson) has been demoted to patrol cop after tangling with the infamous HR, but she's not about to give up —

and neither is institutionalized hacker Root (Amy Acker). Sounds like we're off to a strong start.

What TV shows, if any, are you looking forward to?

  1. Very excited for S.H.I.E.L.D! Person of Interest is a great show as well. Hope it survives the shift to Thursday.

I'm excited to see S.H.I.E.L.D. too! PERSON OF INTEREST is intriguing but, like you, I am afraid a shift in nights may hurt it.

  4. Nice Corvette. I watch very little tv, but will if my interest is hooked.

Usually I'll watch documentaries, movies I've missed, and anything about Paris or scifi.

Yes, Phil is alive and as snarky as ever. I will have to wait until it is offered by Amazon Instant Video or Hulu to watch it. But I can't wait.

Yes, Lola looks vintage. I do not have cable or a TV capable of receiving the new wavelengths, but I watch on my Kindle Fire or laptop if the show interests me. See? We are a bit alike. :-)

Really? The 2nd episode of SLEEPY HOLLOW is a disappointment? Bummer.

I gave up on THE WALKING DEAD when they killed Rick's wife.

Poor Miley. She doesn't realize what an image she is tarring herself with that will stay no matter what. Of course, she could be exactly the kind of person she presents herself to be. Sad.

I am excited for S.H.I.E.L.D, too! Miley is ... I have no words. :-)

  9. Miley is an adult, and I couldn't care less what she does. I only wish she'd leave her tongue in her mouth. I'm starting to cringe the way I do when I see an abused animal—not when I see Miley, just her tongue.

I'm not a TV person, but I'll watch S.H.I.E.L.D because of Josh Whedon's involvement. So far I've tried Sleepy Hollow and made it through ten minutes, and The Blacklist, got through five minutes of that then turned to Castle—a show I detest. My hopes for the new season are fading fast. I am still looking forward to The Originals and American Horror Story—Coven because they're both filmed in New Orleans, and I'm missing the city.

Quit laughing at me Roland. ;)

I never laugh at friends -- only with them.

I actually enjoyed The Blacklist. Though I think I am all witch-ed out! IF S.H.I.E.L.D can capture the spirit of FIREFLY it has a chance.

CASTLE stopped being fun sometime around the 2nd season.

Miley is only an adult in body; her emotional state is that of a child -- and sadly, it will probably always be that way. If the media could just stop showing me all her tongue-shots, I would very happy! :-) It's like watching a little girl make mud pies on the day of her mother's funeral --- she hasn't a clue to the real world.

New Orleans can certainly be an American Horror Story, all right! ;)

I bet you don't miss the humidity!!

  11. This is the first I realised Whedon is behind S.H.I.E.L.D. - now I am more excited! :D

  12. I think S.H.I.E.L.D. will do well, provided ABC doesn't jerk the show around. I don't think it will have a problem up against NCIS. It's target audience will probably be watching it online.

Yes, if ABC is smarter than FOX, S.H.I.E.L.D should do very well.

    J E:
Yes, please ABC, let it stay on one night same time. I plan to watch it online or on my Kindle Fire HD as I do all the TV programs I regularly watch. Thanks for visiting. :-)
