AMAZON BEST SELLING AUTHOR ... ME

I spent much of the evening with Sandra, enduring the effects of her 5th straight Chemo treatment.

She tapped her laptop. "Roland! You're an Amazon best selling author!

On Amazon's 100 best selling Haunted New Orleans titles you have #7 (THE LEGEND OF VICTOR STANDISH), #8 (BURNT OFFERINGS), #9 (THE RIVAL/victor standish volume 3), and #10 (CREOLE KNIGHTS)!

I told her I had only sold 7 copies of LEGEND, 0 copies of BURNT OFFERINGS and CREOLE KNIGHTS and only 2 copies of THE RIVAL.

I had no idea why Amazon listed me like that. (She doesn't know of my car mishap) so I explained my friends decided to buy my books as a sort of morale-boost.

I told her Amazon was a strange set-up and that seven books bought all at once shot me up the charts. She insisted that this was the start of a huge momentum for my books.

She has so little to be excited about lately that I did not rain on her happiness for me. A happiness that would not have happened except for the generosity and large hearts of you my friends.

The three copies of THE LAST SHAMAN you have bought has placed me #12 on Amazon's 100 best selling Native American fantasy novels. And the joy that brought Sandra for me is truly priceless.

"Are you going to put it on your blog?" she asked me. I said no as that would skew the truth of my books.

She reached up and twisted my nose playfully (kinda),

making me promise I would. She doesn't visit my blog since my white on black messes with her chemo-altered stomach right now.

I offered to change my blog, but she says my black background makes my blog look elegant and my header stand out. She wiggled her fingers, threatening my nose if I changed my lay-out.

I like my nose as it is so my black background is here to stay. And here I am, keeping my word to Sandra about me ... ah ... sorta being ... Jeez ... I promised, so

Despite the numbers under thirty sold, here I am AN AMAZON BEST SELLING AUTHOR.

Now, I can tell Sandra I kept my word. I feel like a President juggling the figures of the economy on a STATE OF THE UNION speech!
***
On a separate note:

THANK ALL OF YOU MY FRIENDS FOR BUYING MY BOOKS TO HELP ME OUT.

It means more than words than can say. It makes me feel not quite so alone. I am moved beyond my ability to express myself at your generosity!

D.G.Hudson asked what order to read my books in:

1.) GHOST WRITERS IN THE SKY (my how to write manual written by my ghostly friends)

2.) RITES OF PASSAGE and its sequel, ADRIFT IN THE TIME STREAM
(the 1853 fantasy Titanic with Samuel McCord, their prologues and epilogues narrated by William Faulkner in the New Orleans of the Roaring Twenties.)

3.) FRENCH QUARTER NOCTURNE and its sequel, CREOLE KNIGHTS
(Set in Katrina-devastated New Orleans with Samuel McCord, Father Renfield, and the cast of characters from Meilori's.)

4.) THE LEGEND OF VICTOR STANDISH
{Victor's first meeting with Samuel McCord, Meilori's, Alice Wentworth the Victorian ghoul and more supernatural enemies than he thought existed.}

5.) UNDER A VOODOO MOON
{Victor's 2nd adventure and first meeting with evolved raptors, the ghost of President John Adams, and 1st trip back to 1834 New Orleans. Victor meets the Jill the Ripper of the French Quarter, Marie Laveau, and the voodoo demigod, Legba.}

6.)THE RIVAL
{Victor's 3rd adventure. See Victor at age 7 surviving a zombie-ravaged Detroit. Watch him return to the New Orleans of 1834. Witness the Menage la Trois of Death. See him duel with President Andrew Jackson under The Oaks. And view the last night of Troy through Victor's eyes.}

7.) END OF DAYS
{Alice Wentworth, Samuel McCord, and all of my assorted heroes fight Ragnarok in Katrina-devestated New Orleans - with the help of the shade of the supposedly dead Victor Standish.}

8.) THE LAST SHAMAN, CALL ME TOMBS, THE BEAR WITH TWO SHADOWS:
{Three novels with my Native American fantasy heroes who also star in END OF DAYS:
Wolf Howl, Toomey Starks, and Hibbs, the cub with no clue who grows to become the bear with 2 shadows.}

9.) BRING ME THE HEAD OF McCORD! :
A collection of short stories, detailing how a 15 year old Samuel McCord started his eerie journey into the supernatural, Victor and Alice's first Christmas, Hibbs' run in with River Face, and why McCord lives in New Orleans. Also the first adventure of Blake Adamson, the clone of Jesus. And a story starring Fallen, the last fae, as Evil finds itself in the odd role of protector of the planet from an alien invasion.

10.) BURNT OFFERINGS:
A collection of short stories with Lucanus, the cursed Greek physician and three tales of McCord following the events of CREOLE KNIGHTS. The last beginning with McCord awakening in a morgue -- when the evening starts like that, you just know the rest of it is going to suck!

11.) THE LAST FAE, LOVE LIKE DEATH, THE PATH BACK TO DAWN, BLACK ROSES IN AVALON, and LAST EXIT TO BABYLON:

The five novel saga of Fallen, the last fae, and Blake Adamson, the clone of Jesus, who try to find some refuge for their doomed love in their battle against the infamous DayStar -- my supernatural Hannibal Lector.

12.) LET THE WIND BLOW THROUGH YOU:
A Noir Native American Romeo and Juliet. A disgraced Lakota psychologist returns to the town of his birth to fight for the soul of the white woman he has always loved. She is a dying crime lord, fending off the wolves who sense blood. Can he salvage what remains of her life before her enemies kill them both?

13.) BLOOD WILL TELL:
A telepathic rare blood courier finds himself the lone survivor of an alien invasion of the Earth ... by intelligent blood. When everything and everyone he has loved is gone, is there anything else for which to live?

Sandra thinks of the two of us as Calvin & Hobbes, though she refuses to say which of is Calvin. I depressingly think I know.

  2. I'm reading the Rival right now, and am enjoying the time travel portion. Question: Which post was it that had the correct order to read your books?

Your friend Sandra seems to have your best interests in mind, so perhaps you should listen to her.

  3. HI, Roland,

I am so glad we made Sandra happy today. She needs it more than all of us combined.

Congrats... I know it's a numbers game, but at least you have made it to best seller status, whatever the case may be.

I hope you're feeling better. I look forward to when times are better for both of us and we chat more on a regular basis.

Take care, my friend and send a hug to Sandra from me. I feel as though I know her.

    Michael

Sandra can use all our prayers. Thanks!!

    D.G.:
I added the list you wanted into this post. Yes, Sandra is much wiser than I! I hope you enjoy THE RIVAL. END OF DAYS is the next one you should read after that.

    Michael:
I look for times when you are a true best seller in the ranks of John Locke or Amanda Hocking. Ah, we can hope! Thank you so much for all you did today, Roland

Thousands in Louisiana are so much worse off than I am. My friends humble me with their kindness!

    Braine:
Thanks for always having my back! And, indeed, Sandra is a feisty fighter. My money's on her. :-)

  8. Sandra is indeed a very smart cookie and a tough one as well. My thoughts are with the both of you, I can almost close my eyes and see you holding her hand and giving her comfort.

Don't let being a number one bestselling author go to your head now ;)

  9. Roland, we were glad to help! And Sandra may be right. Once you hit the top one hundred in any category, even a small one, it has the potential to gain momentum. People really do look at those top one hundred charts. So get excited!

  10. Hey Roland,

That should increase your sales. Also, have you ever considered having a free day at Amazon once a month for your books. Some of my author friends do this and it has helped with boosting their sales. Plus, they get more book reviews.

    Hugs and chocolate,
    Shelly

Also, here is my e-mail: shellyarkonwrites@hotmail.com

Sir Poops and Hair Ball would love to interview you for some nosh.

Sandra is the feisty sort that holds MY hand to comfort me! She is a fighter. Amazon confuses me to no end with its odd ranking where I can have a zero selling book become #8 in their listings.

I feel sort of like a homeless person discovering that he has been listed in BETTER HOMES AND GARDEN magazine as a prize-winning home owner!

    Alex:
I hope you and Sandra are right. Word of mouth may help draw interest to my linked universe of a Supernatural World War.

But I don't think John Locke has anything to worry about from me! Of course he started his momentum by paying $1000 for 50 people to buy his novels and posting postive reviews on Amazon!

Thank you, Alex, and Michael, & Heather as well for posting about me. It made me feel not quite so alone. :-)

    Shelly:
I used to offer one of my books free once a month, too. Then, I started getting email from people saying they never bought my books but waited to download my books until they were offered free! Ouch!

So it had the reverse effect for me. And formatting and book trailers cost.

I offer contests for autographs to reward my friends for reviews. I am considering offering an autograph of Jennifer Lawrence from THE HUNGER GAMES for my next contest. Due to my car mishap, I have had to delay the drawing for the Robert Downey, Jr & Scarlet Johannsen autographs until the 15th of this month.

I would love to be interviewed by Sir Poops and Hair Ball. I might even bring Gypsy, my ghost cat, with me! :-)

    Kelley Lynn:
Yes, the light and humor of me being an "Amazon Best Seller" for two books that have sold zero made me smile and gave Sandra something postive to be happy for in a dark time. Thank you all! Roland

  14. I think it's wonderful to be on the upswing. Stay positive and your numbers will probably go through the roof or what's left of it. :)

  15. Congrats Roland, this is such exciting news. You should just embrace it :) Very proud of you, and you deserve to be noticed for just an amazing writer you are.

I'll keep Sandra in my prayers.

    Happy writing,
    Lindsey

  16. Thanks, Roland for that list, now I've saved a copy. It doesn't bother me to jump around, but I like knowing sequences. . .

Wishing you good luck and some for Sandra too!

  17. Congratulations, Roland. Awesome news.

I've just popped over from Alex J Cavanaugh's blog, after reading about your car accident and other misfortunes. I hope things improve soon. Wishing your friend a speedy recovery as well.

  18. Sorry to have heard about that accident. That was a pretty lousy hand to be dealt. And I hope for the best for Sandra. At least there was the upside with the increased book sales. Hopefully this marks a turn of better luck for you.

  19. I love Calvin and Hobbes. And wow, that is an impressive list of books! Congratulations on climbing up the Amazon charts, no matter what the rankings might mean :-)

  20. The Desert Rock:
Being on the upswing sure beats skydiving DOWN the rankings! Thanks for being happy for me. I pray the sales do still go up. :-)

    Lindsey:
Thanks for the kind words about my writing. I'm afraid to embrace it lest it pop like a bubble!

    D.G.:
I thought a list would be good for all my friends who would like to go in order in my linked worlds. Thanks for the well wishes!

    Ellie:
I can't help feeling the rankings are a mirage of sorts since they come from so few sales. I really don't understand AMAZON!

    Arlee:
Should the Chemo turn the tide for Sandra that would be the best news!

    Deniz:
You love Calvin & Hobbes, too? We're kindred spirits! Thanks for being happy about my mirage ranking! :-)

  21. I was away yesterday and just read this. I am so happy for you! Congratulations!

I think it's great that it was two-fold in helping Sandra too. You are a good friend to have :)
