Johnny Carson added a dash of class with his humor. His intelligence sparkled through his show.
In 2005, after Carson's death,
it was revealed that he had made a habit
of sending jokes to Dave Letterman
which Letterman would then sometimes
incorporate into his monologues.
The January 31, 2005, episode of the Late Show with David Letterman,
which featured a tribute to Carson,
began with a monologue by Letterman
composed entirely of jokes written by Carson himself after his
retirement
Johnny Carson endured. Why? He laughed at himself and made other laugh too. He set the model for 'talk' shows.
ReplyDeleteCarson was a class act. Show wasn't the same with Leno. I didn't know he sent jokes to Letterman though.

ReplyDeleteHe was one of the great ones, wasn't he? :-)
I grew up on Johnny Carson, and every night my Dad would relax by watching his show. He had a kind of adult sophistication that's rare these days
ReplyDeleteP.S. Thanks for the two great clips of his show. I miss Robin Williams too.
ReplyDeleteHi Roland .. he must have been amazing ... and his films were brilliant - cheers Hilary
