WHAT IS THE COLOR OF LOVE? WEP entry

END OF DAYS Audiobook
(Get the Audible audiobook for the reduced price of $1.99
after you buy the Kindle book.)

just received a great review
from a non-author!

"So many wonderfully creative characters, each enhanced by Francene Lockett's voice,
let's you immerse yourself in the story, and identify with each of the many figures in this story.
I loved listening to Francene's voices, each one unique, clear, and appropriate
to the character, whether, ghoul, human, old, young, male or female.

Roland is a fabulous writer and Francene's voices bring his characters alive.
This is a great story appropriate for all ages."

the prompt is: the face of love.

From Chapter Fourteen: WHAT IS THE COLOR OF LOVE?

Cairo by night.  The desert chill descends, and after the constant swirl of daytime noise from the merchants and passers-by, the silence of the evening is like a roaring wind of absence.

I walked beside Meilori as we made our way back to Nikola Tesla’s lab.  I looked at her time and again.  Out of spite towards the now much better behaved Donkor, she wore her hood down.

 {In the last chapter, Meilori killed Donkor for daring to try to murder her Samuel.}

I have called Meilori beautiful, and those of you who have read that word think you know what it means.  “Beautiful” evokes paintings of the masters in your mind and perhaps some face of an attractive woman from your past.

Meilori was of another time, another realm.  To see her was to believe in the stuff of magic, perhaps even to catch glimpses of unicorns in the distance, to hear lost faes’ sad laments in the twilight.

To see her face would break your heart with longing and yet heal that heart at the self-same time.  And from that moment on, your heart would beat twice as strong as before.

What does love look like?  What is its color?  A white flash of fright.  A billowing wave of warmth, its reach beyond the microscope and further than the length of hope.  Is it a jewel sparkling in the night?  Or a whisper murmuring within the corridors of the heart?

Love is not a shy beast to be caught but a rare moment to be treasured.  It burns within each cell, a living seed of hope.  Its rays invisible to most, seen only by the searching heart.

Her face haunted me, for I knew that her nature being what it was, Meilori would one day walk out of my life forever.  But for the moment, we were one.  And I would pretend that tomorrow would never come.  Never.

  2. Beautifully written, Roland.

"Love is not a shy beast to be caught but a rare moment to be treasured. It burns within each cell, a living seed of hope. Its rays invisible to most, seen only by the searching heart."

The eyes show when someone is searching, too. I was told that once. Great WEP entry. This post is like a whisper of the heart of McCord. IMO
I've got another entry this month, too. Tomorrow.

  3. Alex:
Indeed. McCord possesses the dagger of King Solomon which blazes with that Love which sparked all of Creation whenever the holder fills his heart with love.

    D.G.:
Thanks. I am a romantic at heart, so, of course, McCord is as well. :-)

All through DEATH IN THE HOUSE OF LIFE Meilori searches the eyes of McCord. Only at the end does he discover why.

I am so happy you found this post enjoyable. The Father willing, I will check in on your post for WEP tomorrow. Crazy drivers always make my tomorrows uncertain! :-)

  4. "To see her face would break your heart with longing and yet heal that heart at the self-same time. And from that moment on, your heart would beat twice as strong as before." Totally fell in love with that!

And thank you for your warm words on mine.

  5. Nilanjana:
Meilori inspires me to write my best, her being and Empress of an alien race and all! :-)

I'm glad you liked my description of her face.

Your own entry was riveting. Best of luck with your prose.

  6. Very poetic Roland. By far one of my favorite excerpts from the novel. Almost makes me believe in romance.

    Almost.

  7. Listen to Donna - 'almost makes me believe in romance.' We need more of this from you, Roland, so Donna will believe...'Love...It's rays invisible to most, seen only by the searching heart.'

Beautifully lyrical prose as always. A very strong excerpt. Loved the descriptions of Meilori's 'face'. Sad that one day she is going to walk out of his life forever. :(

Thank you for sharing this beautiful excerpt from your novel, Roland.

It's always a pleasure to have you on board for WEP. I appreciate your loyalty, my friend.

Love the review excerpt. I am reading about a dozen books at the moment, but will get around to reviewing DEATH IN THE HOUSE OF LIFE soonish. I am hopelessly busy at the beginning of the school year.

  8. Romantic and mysterious, I like it very much ~ I'm happy to read your words this morning ~

  9. Donna:
I believe romance is possible today, but it has never been easy to find someone who is a full human being and not a fragmented soul. Then, people today live by a self-focused code. It is a lonely world because Man has made it so. Sigh.

    Denise:
Thanks for the kind words. In NEW ORLEANS ARABESQUE, Samuel will learn Meilori's leaving him was not what he thought.

If I survive the 19th cancer surgery and its aftermath, I will get to writing it -- after I finish THE STARS BLEED AT MIDNIGHT (another Egyptian adventure).

Should things take a turn for the worse, you can see bits of NEW ORLEANS ARABESQUE in BURNT OFFERINGS on sale now.

Pace yourself. I was a teacher for a few years myself so I know what the start of a new school year is like!

I hope when you do get to DEATH IN THE HOUSE OF LIFE, you will find a bit of laughter and entertainment in it. :-)

    Grace:
I am so glad you enjoyed my little insight into Samuel and Meilori. :-)

  11. Hi Roland .. I'm so pleased you received that wonderful review by Diane - you deserve it.

The Colour of Love at Night in Cairo .. a cloyee colour, an all embracing colour .. enhancing Meliori's features ... strong colours pulling us inwards ... I hope and don't think she'll be walking out of your life for while ..

Lovely WEP entry .. cheers Hilary

  12. Sally:
Keep the healing thoughts coming, especially on the 19th! Sam tips his Stetson to you.

    Hilary:
Meilori stayed with him until 1999 and then ... but that would be telling. :-)

Sam and Meilori are forever as love is forever.

    Thanks for liking my entry.

  13. A romantic point of view on the power of the face to evoke life-changing, magical feelings.

That really did it for me... your writing has a haunting quality that lingers...
I hope you are recovering. Take care Roland. God bless you.
