It was meant to test a weapon to end the
"Second War to End All Wars"
It did not do so.
But in another dimension much like our own,
it ripped a tear in reality,
creating a revolving portal to other
vicious dimensions.
The portal quickly changed to other dimensions,
stranding curious "tourists" in what used to be
Lake Tahoe,
soon to be ironically called
Lake Pleasant,
a city as toxic as
its transformed waters.
Decades later, in a world bereft of computers,
cell phones, oversea communications
and human compassion ...
the orphan private detective,
Adam Black,
is hired by the not-human
crime lord of Lake Pleasant
to find his missing daughter.
His fee?
Black gets to live.
Along the way, he meets two entities
claiming to be his parents
and the Native American Trickster
Coyote
Can he and his only friend,
cabbie Ray Clark,
find the deadly daughter
and keep their lives in
the madhouse city that is
Lake Pleasant?
In a metaphorical way, creating and using "The Bomb" did indeed tear a hole through the fabric of humanity and society in the years that followed. One could easily say the bomb indeed opened a portal to many things, thoughts, creations to the way mankind views itself. From the Hadron Collider to the School Rooms, Factories and within the hearts and souls of individuals and societies as well.
ReplyDeleteSci-Fi has become a reality in ways most (without secret clearances) will never know, or will not be aware of for decades to come.
Will mankind's pursuit of power and knowledge lead to our destruction?
What blows my mind, is how we as a society wait for devastating destruction to become a reality, only after we've hit a state of emergency, to take action towards reversing that which cannot be reversed. For instance the current and 2 decade long drought in the Southwest and West. We've known this was going to happen for half a century and were warned aeons ago, i.e. a Lack of water and electrical power. Placing not only mankind at risk(s), as well as hundreds of species of animals.
It was like The One Ring in Tolkien's masterpiece, corrupting all those who chased after its power.
