THE MONA LISA OPTICAL ILLUSION and VICTOR STANDISH

Did you know that there is an OPTICAL ILLUSION within the brush-strokes of the MONA LISA?

It is extraordinarily hard to duplicate to this very day.

More extraordinary is that it is connected to VICTOR STANDISH!

Poor Victor Standish.

On his best days, Victor is only PG-13 in his language.

But Alice, the Victorian ghoul, who is the love of his life, insists he prune his "colorful metaphors"

as does Elu, his Apache mentor

(who painfully tweaks his nose when he forgets!)

So in desperation, Victor, veteran of long hours in many libraries,

resorted to using the term "Sfumato!" since it sounded much like what he really wanted to say!

And just what is SFUMATO?

  1. I have seen Mona Lisa at the Louvre, protected whether it's the original or not, you could only get so close. It may be smaller than we expect, but the beauty stands up to it's reputation. Now how can Victor have links to this? Did he know Da Vinci?

    1. Actually, in Detroit (as related in CARNIVAL OF THE DAMNED and THE RIVAL), Victor told Becky and Glasses he was taught for a month by Leonardo when his mother left him with the genius before she "took him on her rounds." He was six at the time, but Victor was always precocious! :-)

I envy you seeing the Mona Lisa in person.

  2. Hi Roland - I 'remember' something about the Mona Lisa smile - but couldn't have told you what. However introducing us to Sfumato ... is so interesting: I gave a talk about him and wished I'd known this ... I'd have included the art mode (term).

Victor is using smoke and mirrors as he writes ... drawing us in to look more closely and see what he's saying ...

    Fascinating post - cheers Hilary

    1. You're right about Victor: he believes life is all Sfumato -- events slowly melding one into another, the right way seemingly clouded in hazy smoke. We just have to step back and clear our vision! ::-)
