When I had my massive heart attack last Halloween, that question occurred to me. Yeah, right. I certainly got a trick for Halloween!
"If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring."
One of the last photographs of Kahlil Gibran
"You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts;
And when you can no longer dwell in the solitude of your heart you live in your lips,
and sound is a diversion and a pastime.
And in much of your talking, thinking is half murdered.
For thought is a bird of space, that in a cage of words may indeed unfold its wings but cannot fly."
- Kahlil Gibran
"The silence of aloneness reveals to their eyes their naked selves and they would escape."
Where will you spend the
last night of your life?

In the 2nd tale in the above book,
I detail the last night of Kahlil Gibran, the gangster, Legs Diamond, Whilhelm Murnau, director of Nosferatu,
and Ida B. Wells, the valiant anti-lynching journalist of the late 1890's ...
all at a fateful 1931 New Year's Eve Party.
The Kindle version is only 99 cents. How can you can go wrong?
I don’t have a Kindle.

I like Ann Rice, so will I like the Victor Standish books? I just downloaded the Kindle app for my iPad.
DeleteIf you like Anne Rice, then, I am fairly sure you will like the Victor Standish novels, mostly all set in New Orleans.
DeleteThe novels in order are:
BOOK 0 - CARNIVEL OF THE DAMNED. (Not set in New Orleans)
LEGEND OF VICTOR STANDISH (A good setting off point)
UNDER A VOODOO MOON
THE RIVAL (most of which occurs in 1834 New Orleans and you meet a young Edgar Allen Poe and an undead Abigail Adams.)
END OF DAYS (occurring after Hurricane Katrina)
THREE SPIRIT KNIGHT
Shelly Arkon wrote of this one: I loved this book. It was definitely unique. A little sci-fi-time travel- mixed with ghouls, demons, vampires, Gods and Godesses.
Victor's world is filled with adults not just teens. His perceptions I believe will amuse you. Thanks for considering journeying with Victor ... he will make you laugh. :-)
Excellent. Victor it is then. Is reading in order important?
DeleteYou can skip CARNIVAL OF THE DAMNED and come back to it after THREE SPIRIT KNIGHT. But Victor's story is told in order after THE LEGEND OF VICTOR STANDISH -- so that is a good place to start. Thanks for deciding to journey with Victor. He makes a good traveling companion. :-)
DeleteThanks.
DeleteAnother blogger friend posted the lyrics to a song that was basically live every day if you're dying. Make it count.
