BLACK FRIDAY KINDLE DEAL and THANKSGIVING MUSINGS_WE SEE, OR DO WE?

THE 9.7" KINDLE DX DEAL FOR NOV.24-28 with FREE 3G WIRELESS!

This is normally $379, so it's a $120 savings.

It's a favorite of some who use it for PDFs and books with complex illustrations with small print.

It uses the same Pearl screen as the Kindle 3 and Kindle Touch but an entire Kindle 3 fits into the screen area of the DX,

so it's easier on the eyes, though obviously it'll weigh more.

It has NO WiFi capability and uses only 3G (Cellular network access), with which you can download books

just about anywhere without looking for a WiFi spot --

and the experimental web browser through that 3G capability is still usable, free, for U.S. citizens and customers in about 61 countries, which Amazon UK lists

The Lakota knew :

to the seeing eye, magic was everywhere.

Each person is Legion : made of many people, all struggling for dominance. We writers even more so than most.

Can you see the hero, Don Quixote, or Cervantes in that legendary tale? It all depends how you look.

Life. Death. We can see both, depending if we squint or not.

Do we swallow camels, while choking on gnats?

Is the obvious truly that? Or is life more complex than we believe?

I think Angelina is beautiful, you all know that. Her humanitarian efforts on behalf of the world's children touches my Lakota spirit.

Then, I discovered Angelina Jolie hates Thanksgiving

and wants no part in rewriting history like so many other Americans.

A friend of hers says, “To celebrate what the white settlers did to the native Indians, the domination of one culture over another, just isn’t her style.

She definitely doesn’t want to teach her multi-cultural family how to celebrate a story of murder.”

According to some sources, Angelina Jolie is so disgusted by "Thanksgiving", she takes her kids out of the country so they are not around the madness that is embodied in the holiday.

Does Angelina Jolie have a point, or has she completely missed the point of having a holiday just to remind ourselves to be grateful for the blessings in our lives? What do you think?

Oh, and check to see if you are still listed as my follower. Blogger has been taking you off my Followers over and over. Sigh.

AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

  1. Hi Roland .. your expositions on the various Kindles has been so interesting .. I've been having connectivity problems - blogger, chrome or just plain mobile broadband - but it's corrected itself now - so I've skipped a few of your posts re Kindles - but I know where to come - thank you. I'm still a friend - no mess up there thankfully!

Those pictures are amazing .. very clear.

Re Thanksgiving and over the top reactions so many people have .. I think the way feasts used to be celebrated as rituals .. have been around for centuries and millennia .. so I see no problem there. It's our consumer world .. that is not so good ...

I pass on commenting more as we don't know other aspects to their family life .. they'd be having x number of thanksgiving dinners for each country ... cheers and I hope you had a peaceful, loving and fun time ... with thoughts - Hilary

  2. Angelina Jolie, deserves the right to say, think, and do whatever she jolly well likes. In my eyes, she is an inspiration to us all. She literally puts her money where her mouth is. And, if she doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, that's her business.

If there were more people like her, the world would be a much better place.

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in NZ either. Doesn't mean we're not thankful for things ...

    Good post, Roland :)

  3. Hilary :
I am glad you have gotten your connectivity problems settled and solved -- knock on wood (THUNK! THUNK! on my head) for their continued solving!

    Aren't those pictures amazing?

Like Rodney King said so long ago, after having survived a police beating : "Can't we all get along?"

Alas, some humans have left the kind out of mankind!

Thanks for visiting and staying to chat, Roland

    Wendy :
Anyone who has read my blog for long knows I admire Angelina for her work in the international arena for children. She and Brad have also been pillars of help to the suffering of New Orleans after Katrina.

I would use them as heroes in future Victor Standish novels, but people would complain I was trying to get readers to my novels, using their fame. I will still mention their humanitarian work in New Orleans and Sandra Bullock's as well, but in a distant way so as to not have them think I am using their celebrity.

Yes, you are right. Angelina has the right to raise her children in the manner she chooses and to celebrate what days she wishes.

I, as a part Lakota Sioux, know that America has treated the indigenous tribes found here terribly. But I choose to look on Thanksgiving for its healing content.

And Kiwi's are thankful in the way they live every day -- if my reading about your country is true.

Thanks for visiting and for being my friend -- I am thankful for that friendship, Roland

  4. I completely understand where Angelina is coming from but I don't agree with her. We aren't celebrating the domination of one society over another, we're celebrating all we're thankful for. All holidays were originally something else that many people wouldn't like. It is no coincidence that modern religious holidays mirror the pagan holidays. That doesn't mean we shouldn't celebrate them now for what they are to us today.

  5. Heather :
Even part Lakota as I am, I, like you, believe Angelina is missing the healing, affirming qualities to Thanksgiving. We can make each holiday our own. Speaking of which - have a great Christmas Season! Roland

  6. In areas where 3G is spotty, you might need that Wi-Fi though.
My big purchase today was the Nook tablet - Christmas gift. Would've preferred splurging for an iPad, but the recipient really wanted the Nook. Considering that every time I see my father he takes command of my iPad, maybe I should've purchased one of those anyway...

  7. Alex :
You are probably right, but everywhere I drive for my blood center has decent 3G for my Kindle.

It was great to give the Nook that was requested as a gift -- it says that what that person wants is important to you. Have a great holiday season! Roland

  8. Ignorant. The Thanksgiving Holiday celebrates a time when people came together and helped one another. It was a peaceful event of brotherhood. The stuff that happened later is not a part of it.
