HAVE YOU EVER BEEN HIT BY ...

Have you ever been hit by one of life's surreal moments?

I was listening to James Horner's Casper's Lullaby

and thought, "I wonder what will be the next movie he scores?"

Then it hit me.

He was dead, and we had all the music touched with his genius that we would ever get.  A sadness overtook me.

Then, I remembered Dr. Seuss's words:

"Do not be sorry for what you have lost; be thankful that you ever had it."

Season 11 of Keeping up with the Kardashians kicked off Sunday night,

revealing a tearful Kourtney Kardashian getting emotional ...

not over the Paris Attacks ...

oh, no, she was crying over her split with boyfriend, Scott Disick!

When I saw the headline for that, I got sick.  Really?  Have you Kardashians no shame?

On another branch of that family ...

I was reading THE WASHINGTON POST and came across ...

After the 9/11 attacks, no one disputed that Moira Smith was a hero.

The 38-year-old police officer led over a hundred bleeding people out of the World Trade Center,

one after another, until the building collapsed and buried her beneath its rubble.

The following month, Smith was named one of Glamour Magazine’s “Women of the Year,” a title that seemed more than fitting for the only female

among the 23 New York Police Department officers who lost their lives that day.

The distinction was retroactively declined last week — by Smith’s husband.

“Was there no woman in America, or the rest of the world, more deserving than this man?”

I was hit by the fact that Transgender is a topic no wants to discuss

for fear of being called a bigot and emotionally unhealthy themselves.

A former teacher of mine and former psychiatrist in chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Paul R. McHugh,

wrote in THE WALL STREET JOURNAL in June of this year:

"The people the media calls Trangender suffer from a "disorder of assumption" in believing they can choose their sex."

He likens it to those troubled individuals suffering from anorexia who look in the mirror and think they are “overweight."

He was, of course, assaulted with vile comments from the media.

It hit me then:

Have we surrendered to the PC portion of our country, afraid to speak our hearts?

I later read on MSN:

Billionaire Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump said Monday

that the United States should "strongly consider" shuttering some mosques as part of its efforts to prevent extremist attacks in the country.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Monday

that radical mosques and groups that attack the country's values should be shut down.

It hit me as I read

that if another 911 should hit our country, our Congress might well set up Muslim Relocation Camps

(as was done with American Japanese citizens during WWII)

for the "safety" of the Muslims in our country.

What do you think
of all of this?

  1. I do feel concern from Muslims. It is not a good sign that Trump is being considered as the Republican nominee much lest some of his xenophobic opinions.

I do feel the husband of Moira Smith has a point. I think Bruce Jenner got the award because he has a lot of money and someone's hand got greased. Money is behind the publicity of the Kardashians.

Money is the root of ISIS too.

    1. Without financial support, Isis would not be able to carry on its mad campaign of hate and murder.

I think Glamour wanted to sell copies of its magazine as the magazine market is being killed by the internet.

      Sigh. :-(

  2. As I mentioned today, I am weary of the world's shenanigans. I think Moira's husband is correct in his thinking and action. And I feel sorry for non-radical Muslims who don't believe we are their natural enemies and am fighting my growing hate for the destroyers. Also I like Dr. McHughes conclusion. And one more thing, your comment made me cry (in a good way) and I rarely cry these days. Pretty much everything you wrote resonated. Thanks. Teresa

    1. No, thank you, Teresa, for liking my post so much. I read your post and understand some of those tears.

      What did William Wordsworth write?

"The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;—
      Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!"

May something beautiful and unexpected happen to you soon. :-)

  3. Rachel, who blogs at When A Lion Sleeps, Let It Sleep, recently had two posts featuring a woman named Megan who is transgender. They offer a good learning experience.

    Love,

  4. As well as those whose lives were stolen, my heart aches for the Moslems who have been tarred with the extremist brush.

    1. Like the American Japanese after Pearl Harbor, the Muslims in my country who just want to live their own lives may find themselves the target of unmerited violence. :-(

  5. The bigots in our society seem to be getting louder, more aggressive, and angry. I believe in shutting down and exporting from any country the small number of extremist imams since they are the propagandists for terrorists. But shutting down all mosques is insane and comparable to shutting down all churches because of the few extremist Christian terrorists (remember Timothy McVeigh, anyone?)

    1. Sadly all through history, the innocent have been punished for the transgressions of a few. :-(

Violence begets violence and hate is always deaf to reason.

  6. One of those Japanese Re-location Camps, (Oh what a name for a prison), is but a 2 hour drive north from here. A Monument just south of Mount Whitney and the town of Lone Pine. Out on the desert prairie, nestled up against the foothills of those majestic towering, and very cold snowy most of the year tall Mountain Peaks. The Japanese had to of fought the cold, as an essential need to live. I can only wonder if they were ever provided firewood. I need to find a book, detailing life within this camp. I've been stopping by it, for a short rest stop, and reminder of the injustice of this paranoid Nation during WWII. Yet many old timers from a long time back, defend their judgements, and even draped the miles long Military Aircraft Buddings, of which I'd one day work in. Of course being shown the WWII carpet drapes over these plants, was stunning. Made to look like a residential tract. A truly incredible piece of American History. Angeleno's seriously thought if Hawaii could be hit, then they were next in line for attacks.

    1. George Takai, Sulu of Star Trek fame, lived part of his childhood in one of those camps. The scars from that time have never quite healed in his heart.

During the winter it was numbingly cold in that camp you speak of and little was done to combat that cold by the authorities. A LONGMIRE episode from the 4th season dealt with the consequences of one such camp. :-(

  7. Hi Roland - we seem to dwell on the superficial, and not think about what's important ... we all follow (well most do). It's interesting remembering that 3,000 years ago all religions lived in harmony ... and have done over the eras - though there've always been outbreaks of war.

We could live in peace with each other if we weren't so polarised. We need to be thankful for what we have and thank others for what they have ...

Some leaders really should know when to hold their tongues ...

    All the best - Hilary

    1. Asking a bombastic politician like Trump to hold his tongue while running for office is like asking politicians to keep their promises after they get elected. :-(

I find it hard to think of any man as godly who works to kill children and women.

All the best right back at you. :-)

  8. Sorry, woman of the year should always go to a woman.
Relocating is taking it to the extreme. Like McCarthyism was back in the day.

    1. Many who champion Transgenerism are unaware of the science of the X and Y chromosomes determination of our sex. Biology is biology no matter what society says.

Societal approval was wrong in burning witches at the stake, selling black people as property, or imprisoning and executing Jews merely on the basis of their race.

As Mark Twain wrote: when you find yourself in the ranks of the majority, it is time to reconsider your stand. :-)
