HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT THAT THE WORLD IS MAD?

"Membership in a terrorist organization does not prohibit a person from possessing firearms or explosives under current federal law,"

the Government Accountability Office said in 2010.

The law prohibits felons, fugitives, drug addicts and domestic abusers from purchasing firearms in the United States ...

But people on the consolidated FBI Terrorist Watch List --

folks who are placed there when there is reasonable suspicion that they are a known or suspected terrorist — can freely purchase handguns or assault-style rifles.

That's not a recipe for tragedy or anything is it?  :-(

Yet the FBI asserts we are safer here than in Paris.

their spokesman said,

"Safer here than there? Yes.We are separated by an ocean. Without a doubt, we are safer here than over there.”

Because of limited resources, the FBI must constantly reevaluate

which targets are a priority when it comes to closely following top-tier terrorism suspects.

“It’s daunting,” said a former senior FBI official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the bureau.

He said. “It’s a hard time for the bureau. Only on TV is it easy to follow people.”

Politicians are making political hay from their stance to prevent Syrian refugees from entering our country.

Did you know that only 5% of Americans during Hitler's rise (July 1938) wanted to allow Jews to flee fascist terror?

Of course, none suggested that the Jews might harbor spies as Trojan Horses either.

Is Isis demented?

Of course, in one aspect they are, for murdering innocents.

By claiming devastating attacks on French and Russian targets in recent days,

the Islamic State has embraced what appears to be an irrational strategy:

It has angered and provoked two military powers

that had been reluctant to engage in an all-out war with the self-declared caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

Expanding the conflict may seem like a self-destructive move.

But to some analysts,

it is squarely in keeping with what the group advertises as its overriding, apocalyptic mission:

to lure the world’s unbelievers into Syria for a final, Armageddon-like battle.

Obviously, they believe they can jump-start the horrors of Revelations early.

When Charlie Sheen spoke out Tuesday on the "Today" show, the big news wasn't that he is HIV-positive.

It was that he had been blackmailed for upwards of $10 million

by people who threatened to reveal the information to the public.

"I release myself from this prison today," the actor said.

In the past few months, there have been a number of prominent hacks that involved stealing medical data.

It would appear that what we once thought was sacred -- our medical records -- are vulnerable ...

and so are we.  Sigh.

STOP ISIS: CENSOR THE INTERNET?

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) wants the federal government to shut down the Internet —

or at least, the parts of it that are being used by the Islamic State.

"They are really trying to use the Internet and all the social media to intimidate and beat us psychologically, he said.

"Isn't there something we can do to shut those Internet sites down?"

I have another question:

"When is a democracy
no longer a democracy?"

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

Mother sang a song to me at night when very young.

When my father deserted me on the streets of Detroit,
I sang it to myself at night in the corner of
what seemed the safest alley.

  1. So much information to process, a lot of what is going on will have to work itself out. Many people are going to suffer unnecessarily.

Armageddon, I'm glad I have stepped a little away from the religion I was raised in. It is a fearsome thing.

I don't believe in a fair world by any means. I think we have been lucky in this country to have free speech. It does make you sick to see it wasted on some far out people when the rest of us keep our mouths shut to avoid trouble.

Guns to would be terrorists is a stupid thing.

    1. Yes, to allow those suspected of being terrorists to buy guns legally just seems inane ... like much of the government. Sigh.

Life will unfold as it will. Best to remember our times are in the Father's Hand -- realizing that no man knows the day or the hour.

The tongue gets so many in trouble -- even me when I am not careful!! :-)

I am afraid the world is going to get worse before it gets better like a patient with a high fever. Sigh.

  2. I often think that not the world, but its human inhabitants are mad. Incurably mad.

    1. Indeed, the world of Nature is just savage, one hungry mouth eating another ... with glimpses of beauty for contrast.

The humanity quotient seems hell-bent for self-destruction, doesn't it? :-(

  3. I'm still thinking of how the families who lost loved ones are coping.

    1. Not very well I fear. When one you love dies, a piece of your heart is torn from you to leave with that person forever. It is always darker when a light dies than if it had never existed at all. :-(

  4. I agree with EC, humanity is crazy, and our politicians are the leaders! Please, stop the world and let me off!

    1. Eddie Arnold, a vintage Country Western singer, had a song "Make the World Go Away and Get It Off My Shoulders."

I sometimes feel like you and Eddie Arnold. Humanity seems so spiteful, self-centered, and cruel often. We must be the change we wish to see in the world. :-)

  5. Hi Roland - it is certainly a very difficult time ... I'm not sure if you've seen Jo's post on the lad and his father having a chat - well worth a listen.

I heard an expert on Syria and the Jihadists (Charles Lister "The Syrian Jihad: Al-Qaeda, the Islamic State and the Evolution of an Insurgency") ... he was saying how clever the Al-Qaeda have been .. as they've embedded themselves into the way of life in Syria, similarly as William the Conqueror did, and as the Romans did in Egypt ...

Al-Qaeda for completely different reasons: to be disruptive and to be very dangerous ...

I noted that with 'horrified interest' ... Hilary

    1. I fear the horror may become more personal as the terrorists focus their attacks on more high-profile foreign targets. :-(

  6. You know, our leaders were right on their money when they took the fight to the terrorists and kept them too busy in their own lands to plan more attacks. And do you know how many potential attacks have been stopped because there are people on red alert at all times? I have no idea, but I'm so grateful.

    1. In war, we cannot half-fight. We must do it all the way or not at all, you are right in that. :-)

  7. I believe the world is mad. Enough said.
