AS WITCH FIRES THAT BURN & IWSG by Neil Gaiman

*At the end of this post is the INSECURE WRITERS SUPPORT by Neil Gaiman.

“As a breath on glass,
As witch-fires that burn,
The gods and monsters pass,
Are dust, and return."
George Sterling

I have come to Meilori's where the bronze ghosts of her mists sweep across the interior of the haunted jazz club like veiled women to their prayers.

In a sense, I have come home again, and I go now,

not to the rune-carved table where Samuel McCord waits in vain to see slanted jade eyes smiling at him one more time --

No, I go to the table of Robert Rossmann.

He is the distinguished voice actor who narrated HER BONES ARE IN THE BADLANDS

and is, even now, recording
DEATH IN THE HOUSE OF LIFE.

Robert and Emily Rossmann

But Robert is much more than a voice actor.

He has been a theater actor most of his life.  And had a career in 3D animation, mostly for video games.  Your pasttime was his employment!

Most of his theater experience was in the San Francisco area.  He now lives in the gold country of the Sierras.

In fact, he now helps run a theater company called Sierra Stages in Nevada City.

His Voice Over career has included video games, commercials, documentaries, audio books,

and live readings with an orchestra (PETER AND THE WOLF, SOLDIER'S TALE).

Working on HER BONES ARE IN THE BADLANDS was an exceptional challenge even for such a professional as Robert --

due to the number of dialects, historical figures, and "otherworldly" pronuncitions.

In fact, the last is why Robert asked to see me.

I sit down and frown at his worried face.  "What's up, Robert?"

"Your way to pronounce that incantation we talked about was dead on, Roland."

"Really?  I'm glad."

"Oh, yes ... DEAD on ...

Now, tell me how to get rid of Anubis.  He's eating me out of house and home!

Dead things are knocking on the door all hours.  And he's starting to flirt with Emily!"

  4. Robert sounds like one hell of an actor - how wonderful that he's your narrator!

And Anubis sounds like a ravenous pet indeed.

  5. Neil Gaiman is one of my heroes. It is hard for me to think of him as an insecure writer - but he no doubt does have some (unjustified) fears.
I am very, very happy that you have found such an awesome narrator.

  6. A perfect narrator for both those stories, Roland. And two of my favorite novels of yours, too! You couldn't have had a better narrator, other than yourself.

Interesting information about a talented man.

  7. Helena:
Anubus is no pet as poor Emily would agree! :-)

Yes, I was extremely fortunate to be found by Robert.

    Elephant's Child:
Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors, too. I think every great artist has insecurities.

Robert is a fantastic voice actor and fine person.

    D.G.:
Trust me, Robert is galaxies ahead of me as a voice talent!

I wanted to say THANKS to a great actor and director. I hope PENNY DREADFUL acts as a boost to our stories. :-)

  9. Alex:
I definitely lucked out by having such a talented man want to narrate my books!

I try to at least leave my friends with a laugh or smile! Emily is not amused however with Anubis as a house pest, ah, I meant guest!

  13. Grr, I've got technical issues with being able to hear embedded videos for some reason. I'm betting Robert rose to the challenge of all those complications.

  14. So cool finding a narrator. My fave part of the whole story is when he said this:

"Now, tell me how to get rid of Anubis. He's eating me out of house and home! "

Now that is a story coming alive. Awesome.

I loved the video on Neil Gaiman. He is one of my fave authors.

    Enjoyed the post a lot.

Have you tried a new browser like Firefox or Chrome?

Robert is a champion and a professional.

You are riveted by his vocal performance in our audiobooks.

    Juneta:
Yes, that is the story coming alive ... with bite!

I thought all my fellow Neil Gaiman fans would love that video. Thanks for visiting!
