LEONARD NIMOY TWEETED HIS HEART

{Taken at Dragon Con 2009}

He was saying GOOD-BYE for months on Twitter.

His last Tweet?

"A life is like a garden.  Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP."
{Live Long And Prosper}

Sometimes he wrote poetry as in "You and I Have Learned" which ends with:

"The Miracle is this:
The more we share
The more
we have."

A recent tweet was born

of the smoking-related chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which eventually killed him.

"Don't smoke.  I did.  Wish I never had."

On October 29, 2014, he tweeted:

"These are beautiful days.  Folks ask what I'm doing.  I tell them I'm doing Family."

We would be wise to follow his example in that.

DID YOU KNOW?

* Spock's Vulcan greeting, the three pointed hand gesture, was inspired by the Hebrew letter "Shin"

that he saw men exchange at a synagogue when a young boy with his father.

* During the filming of the TV STAR TREK, Leonard Nimoy would use a bicycle to get to the commissary  to eat lunch

before everyone else so he could race back to have his Spock ears re-set and not delay filming.

Hey, lunch was lunch!

William Shatner repeatedly stole Leonard's bicycle,

chaining it to a fire hydrant, hiding it in a doberman infested trailer!

When Leonard put his bike in his car trunk, Shatner had the car towed!

You really must watch this video!

  1. I was so sad to hear about Leonard Nimoy's death. He was my first actor crush at the tender young age of 4 years old. I even drew a picture of him giving the vulcan greeting. I think my mom has it somewhere. Thanks for sharing the stories. I didn't know about the bicycle, but that's really funny!

I wanted to remember Mr. Nimoy with a warm heart and laughter -- I believe he would want it that way. :-)

  3. This made me quite sad today when I learned that Mr. Spock had died. I always liked him best. I wanted to be Vulcan. . .Shatner on the other hand has never grown up, and I like him better now than I did in his earlier roles.

  4. I didn't know he was ill, so it came as a shock, but maybe not if you had been following his tweets. He was a gentle soul. Had to laugh at Shatner's mischief, he seems like the type!

  5. That clip was hilarious.
We lost an amazing man and an icon for the ages.

  6. D.G.:
I think Shatner has mellowed into a nicer man. Mr. Spock was such an integral presence in my life for so long -- realizing Leonard Nimoy is gone has left an emotional vacuum of sorts. Strange how an actor we have never met seems so personal to us, right?

    Nick:
His was a dry, gentle wit and like D.G. wrote, Shatner is the eternal Puck with his mischief!

    Alex:
Wasn't that clip fun? It makes you want to be with them on camping trips for the stories they would tell! . :-)

  7. We lost more than an actor, we lost a friend... from the stars and now we share him with those stars. Great post and thoughts...

You're right: we did lose a friend ... and a piece of our childhood. :-(

  10. Thank you so much for this video, Roland. It's so funny and warm, and in a way I needed to see Nimoy and Shatner being friends and finishing each other's sentences. Sometimes what we see on the screen we want to see in real life, and one of the most powerful aspects of Star Trek was the relationships and friendships between the characters. I'll be forwarding that video to friends, which is kind of appropriate.
