How Can We KNOW? #AToZChallenge

“I've been making a list of the things they don't teach you at school.

They don't teach you how to love somebody. They don't teach you how to be famous.

They don't teach you how to be rich or how to be poor. They don't teach you how to walk away from someone you don't love any longer.

They don't teach you how to know what's going on in someone else's mind.

They don't teach you what to say to someone who's dying.

They don't teach you anything worth knowing.”
Neil Gaiman

"The mind is a veritable prisoner bound within the body ...

and instead of investigating reality by itself and with itself,

the mind is compelled to peer through the bars of its prison."
 - Plato

It is interesting that we individually tend to think of ourselves as clear thinkers and see those who disagree with us as misguided.

We imagine that the impressions we have about the world come to us unsullied and unfiltered.

We think we have the capacity to see things just as they really are, and that it is others who have confused perceptions.

Not only are we in the grip of a staggeringly complex array of cognitive biases and dispositions,

but we are generally ignorant of their role in our thinking and decision making.

TELL ME:

HOW CAN YOU KNOW
THAT WHAT YOU KNOW
IS TRUE?

  1. This is a conundrum... how can we know?
At different points, different things feel right. I think what the heart says is right, when we do not hurt others and when we are reason for someone’s smile.
Though in political situation - logic dictates.

    1. I've found logic and politics are easy traveling companions! :-) I, like you, feel that our instincts seldom lead us wrong.

I'm a writer: who knows what's really real? And does it matter?
